The Toronto-based livetronica phenom The Chameleon Project blurs the line between electronic and organic sounds to create a psychedelic dance party that stimulates the senses. Fusing elements of groove-based jazz, electroncia, funk, disco, dub, reggae, and experimental rock, the music is both intelligent and visceral. The music combines the authenticity of live music with the psyche of electronica, experimenting with unique timbres, otherworldly vocal samplings, and heavy, tight beats. Often compared to such disparate bands as Bonobo, Medeski Martin and Wood, STS9, John Scofield, Thievery Corporation, Soulive, and the Disco Biscuits, The Chameleon Project mixes elements of the past with modern innovations into a signature style that is full of infectious, syncopated grooves. Their shows are pulsating dance parties whose energy is contagious. This is music for your mind, and your body.
Driven by one thing above all else, the music, Jamie Kidd is an accomplished multi-instrumentalist, producer, and DJ. A part of Toronto’s vibrant music community for over 15 years, Jamie has shared his affinity for bass heavy rhythms throughout North America and Europe. Never one to remain static, Kidd has developed from a foundation in jazz performance and composition with a focus on improvisation based ensembles, to recording and touring with numerous groups as a funk and rock bassist; including the drum & bass and dub quartet Chameleon Project.
Primarily a solo producer, in 2006 Jamie began working as half of techno duo Metalogic (with Frederik Hatsav), whose edgy original productions and collaborations with veterans Perc and Dietrich Schoenemann were released on internationally renowned labels including Hidden Agenda, Perc Trax, Roots & Wings, Sleaze Records, and Thoughtless Music. This partnership culminated in 2010 with their acclaimed full length album ‘Torus’ on Germany’s Nachtstrom Schallplatten. During these years his music was supported by a long list of inspirational producers and DJs such as Richie Hawtin, Adam Beyer, Laurent Garnier, Cari Lekebusch, Extrawelt, Mark Henning, Nick Warren, Tony Rohr and Timo Maas.
In one of North America’s exceptionally compelling and diverse music scenes, Kidd has established himself among the city’s finest deep techno and house DJs. He is a co-founder of the esteemed Box of Kittens collective, whose parties have helped reenergize Toronto’s underground since 2007; and resident dj for Platform events, where he has played alongside many of the world’s most respected electronic artists including Jeff Mills, Sven Vath, Trentemoller, Ben Klock, Carl Craig, Claude Von Stroke, DJ Koze, Maceo Plex, Matthew Dear, Robag Wruhme, Robert Hood, Seth Troxler and countless others.
